Chinese Language Support for Windows Mobile
For those Smartphone users which buy a Windows Mobile Phone outside of China do not contain font support for Chinese Languages. How to Viewing and writing Chinese Text on your Windows Mobile Smartphone?
Microsoft does not offer Asian support, at least not that we could find on Microsoft.com. They do offer a hint, however, in the discussion of fonts in the ActiveSync help files.
In the Internet you will find much free software which promised to solve such problems, but it is always a risk to make that yourself and not to know what it in the end does to your Windows Mobile Installed Software. We also faced this problem many times. Performance problems or screwed up of the QWERTY or the Keyboard of your Smartphone not more work how it was before, this are few problems which could appear when installing Software which promise to solve this problem.
Here’s a solution that has worked on all smartphones running Windows Mobile:
- Download the CAB file (Contains the font files and Sogou Pinyin Input)
- Run the CAB file and install it to Phone
- Reboot
Notes
There may be third party software available to allow full treatment of Asian text, including text entry. Microsoft does not seem to offer an Input Method Editor (IME) for Windows Mobile, but one might be available elsewhere.
Watch out for memory/disk space on the Mobile device. Chinese fonts are 8.7 MB big.
Enjoy!
